Caterpillar’s Aug. 5 announcement it will invest $30 million to expand its Lee County plant is the latest example of economic success for the region's 10 more-rural counties, which have attracted more than $233 million in capital investments during 2010 for projects expected to create 675 jobs.
May/June 2010 Regional employment declines, investments hit record high

January-February 2010 Region posts record year for business investment
Growing companies that announced a record $1.9 billion in new investment in the Research Triangle Region during 2009 for projects expected to create more than 10,000 jobs. Announcements came from new and existing companies, domestic and international, a range of industry types and both rural and urban areas.
